One of the most famous winter resorts in Japan

A galaxy of winter resorts

Minamiuonuma City is in one of the heaviest snowfall areas in the world. Consequently, it has well-equipped ski facilities and ski schools that cater to the every need of skiers from beginners to advanced and enjoys a high reputation among domestic and international skiers and snowboarders as one of the most famous winter resorts in Japan. Moreover, the city and surrounding areas host many snow and winter festivals, which are the world’s largest in scale.



Ishiuchi Maruyama Ski Resort

The resort has a total area of 2,360,000 m2 with a wide variety of 24 natural runs. One of the advantages of this resort is the excellent ski resort network with two other resorts, namely, Gala Yuzawa and Yuzawa Kogen.


Maiko Snow Resort

The resort has a variety of courses, such as Maiko Snow Slope,which anyone from a beginner to an expert can enjoy, Nagamine Valley featuring a long, six-kilometer run and hard packed snow areas, and Okuzoechi Bowl, which proudly offers a panoramic view, as it is located at the highest level with high quality snow.


Joetsu Kokusai Ski Resort

The resort has 22 runs on its vast area of 10,000,000 m2 that stretch over majestic mountains. The big scale cannot be covered in one day and reminds us of the major resorts in Europe, the home of skiing. For both skiing and snowboarding, the resort offers runs that every member of the group from beginner to expert can enjoy.


Muika Snow Resort

Visitors can enjoy a 360-degree panorama from the mountaintop that commands a fine view of the three great mountains of Echigo and Mt. Yahiko near the Japan Sea. The slopes provide courses mainly for family skiers, beginners, and intermediate skiers. The Eagle Course, with the steepest incline of 33 degrees and a partially ungroomed snow area, abounds in variations and is good for secret practice by advanced skiers.



Muikamachi Hakkaisan Ski Resort

The resort has diverse runs where intermediate and advanced skiers can give free play to their skills, including a three-kilometer downhill course comprising steep and medium steep slopes, a well-maintained flat course, a one-kilometer knob hill, and a deep snow area. Skiers who boast higher than intermediate skills must try this challenging downhill course at least once.

Hot springs in Minamiuonuma City are truly the traditional hot springs of Japan. Japanese dishes served in a hot spring inn are another pleasure of a trip to Minamiuonuma as you can enjoy Koshihikari, Japan’s number one rice, and mountain vegetables and river fish dishes that can be served only here.
